2025: A Year in Review

2025 was a frustrating year.

At least, it was when it came to my writing. I know I mentioned that in my last post, but looking back on the year as a whole, I’ve gotta say it again: I didn’t get nearly as much written in 2025 as I would’ve liked. True, I got the Kosan rewrite off my back—that’s something—but apart from that, this year was mostly a grind. Procurers 2? Stuck. Blueblood 2? Stuck. The Ravage 2? Not really stuck, per se, but not really falling into a groove, either.

That’s why, as I mentioned in the last post, I decided to take a break. I haven’t really written much of anything since sometime in November, I think about a month and a half. I have to say, though, that the break’s been good for me. I’ve been working through some of the wrinkles in my stories in the back of my mind, and for a few of them—Blueblood 2 especially—I think some of those are starting to work themselves out. Part of the problem in Blueblood 2, I think, is there’s maybe a character still alive in that book who should’ve died in book 1. I’m not fully decided on that, though. Gonna have to think that over a little longer.

Even so, though, with some of these issues being ironed out, I’m a bit more optimistic for 2026. I’m still marketing the first Ravage book; got a good collection of rejections going already, but even if no one is interested in that one, I’ve got Kosan and Blueblood in my back pocket, both of which are probably more marketable than The Ravage anyway. Survival fiction isn’t really what’s dominating the bestseller list at the moment (although what is dominating the list, Romantasy, is something that’s just really not my thing. Go figure).

In terms of writing, I’ve got pretty much the same to-do list as I had this time last year, minus the Kosan rewrite. I’m going to try one more time to dive into Blueblood 2; if I hit another big-time snag, though, I’ll just move on to Ravage 2, then after that Kosan 2. I’ll have to fit a Keepers of Eternity rewrite in there somewhere, too. And then, after all that…well, it’ll finally be time to go back to Xerinia, and try to write book 1 in that gigantic Usi series I’ve got planned.

I think that’s mostly it for now. 2025 was a frustrating writing year, but I’m hoping 2026 will be at least a little better. And who knows? Maybe I’ll get on a roll again, like when I wrote the first Ravage book. Guess we’ll have to see.

Oh, one more thing. I know I’ve said this before, and then forgotten when things got busy in my life, but I hope to do a bit more on the blog in 2026. Maybe talk about some of the books I’m reading, or give some occasional writing advice. We’ll see.

Alright, that’s truly all for now. To those who read these posts, thanks for your support. Until next time…have fun, stay safe, keep reading.
